Song of the Summer?

Robin-Thicke-Blurred-Lines-2013-1500x1500

Each summer there seems to just be one song that absolutely DOMINATES the radio. “California Girls” was the song for 2010, “Call Me Maybe” was last year’s choice. However, this summer, there doesn’t seem to be one clear song of the summer. Does this mean that we don’t have a song of the summer? Does this mean we have multiple songs of the summer? I don’t really know.

Here are some of the top contenders:

Blurred Lines – Robin Thicke:  Hate it. Absolutely hate it. Not catchy. Not interesting. Not fun. I change the radio every single time it comes on.

Get Lucky – Daft Punk: Over it. I have been a huge Daft Punk fan for a long time but this song is much more pop-y than their previous songs and I really just like it as much.

Don’t You Worry Child – Swedish House Mafia: I like this song a lot, but I have a similar issue with it that I have with Get Lucky. I just do not like this song as much as earlier Swedish House Mafia. “One,” “Antidote,” and “Miami 2 Ibiza” are all superior songs in my opinion.

Come & Get It – Selena Gomez: As noted in my post about Selena Gomez, I am definitely a fan. It’s extremely catchy and a good choice for song of the summer.

We Can’t Stop – Miley Cyrus – This song seemed to blow up out of nowhere. It’s a good song and I will say that I catch myself singing along sometimes without even realizing. The music video is pretty weird, but it gave the song a lot of exposure, so it was a pretty good choice on Miley’s part it seems.

Fun Fact: The concept of a “Song of the Summer” is not just an American thing. In Spain they had their own “Song of the Summer.” Here is a link to the video:
