Tarantino Fest

This weekend I watched Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill for the first time. Actually, these were the first of any of Quentin Tarantino’s movies that I had seen. I had heard that all of Tarantino’s movies were incredibly dark and gory, but to be honest, they aren’t that bad. They are incredibly good movies and I am looking forward to watching the rest of his movies. I really like his style and how he is able to mesh together so many things to make something great. For example, in Kill Bill, he meshes western movies with kung fu, bright loud colors with a traditional japanese background. Pop culture references with really intense dialogue (“Silly Rabbit, Trix are for Kids”). I think what works so well about his movies is that nothing ever feels out of place. Even though he is taking parts and pieces from so many different influences, everything just molds together so well. In addition to this, Tarantino is an absolutely fantastic screenwriter. The dialogue in both of the movies worked really well. In fact, some of the most enjoyable parts of his movies are when the characters are simply bantering with each other.

I would really like to be able to maybe do something surrounding Tarantino and his films for my Senior Project at the end of the year. He’s a really great filmmaker and I would love to learn more about his incredibly unique style.
